Often, it’s important to gather information on people that work for us. These work appraisals, evaluations, or even, feedback forms factor into our conversations and decisions for supporting future growth.
About 7 years ago, I had the opportunity to manage the Pathways to Advance Virtual Education (PAVE) grant…it was about $2.9 million grant focused on helping teachers earn a Master’s degree in Curriculum with Instructional Technology specialization. What was neat is that the Master’s degree was a blended approach (face to face and online), and that the professors of record were miles away. Mind you, the usual completion rate of such courses is less than fifty percent; PAVE enjoyed a 92% completion rate, high evaluations. Furthermore, participants received a laptop computer, external CD burner (they didn’t come built-in in those days!), and special training.
One of the key intermediaries between the professor of record and the group of teachers that met periodically was an on-site coordinator. The OSC played a key role, serving as the primary conduit between a professor and his students hundreds of miles away.
